• IT Irony: EMC Security Division Hacked

The Wall Street Journal today reported a sophisticated cyber attack on EMC’s RSA SecurID products that are used by more than 25,000 customers worldwide.  Although the attack will not facilitate efforts to breach RSAs customers’ data, it could reduce the effectiveness of SecurID’s authentication process “as part of a broader attack,” according to the article.

In a letter on the company’s web site, RSA Executive Chairman Art Coviello outlined steps the company was taking to “strengthen” SecurID implementations.  Mr. Coviello called the attack an “advanced persistent threat” and has subsequently “hardened” its technology infrastructure.
