• 70% of IT CMOs Now Focus on Customer Acquisition over Retention

Nearly 70% of CMOs cite customer acquisition as their number one goal in 2011 over 12% who cited customer retention, a major shift from the last two recessionary years.  Recent discussions with 30 of the U.S. Southeast’s leading technology companies revealed many actionable statistics and four central themes with widespread implications for marketing and PR in the IT sector in 2011.

A White Paper based on Arketi Group’s Fourth Annual Atlanta High-Tech CMO Roundtable revealed major trends and insight into the always-evolving IT marketing landscape including:

    • The increasing importance of marketing and PR departments reaching outside of their own units to help meet the ever-growing demand for more content.
    • With more strategic requirements placed on social media efforts, communications professionals must take a closer and more critical look at who the social web is reaching and how well it does so.
    • More content will be mapped according to format and function, as IT marketers continue to use diverse content delivery platforms.
    • Finally, more IT companies will use high-tech and high-touch tactics for lead generation and customer outreach in 2011.

Participants in the roundtable included executives from Alcatel-Lucent Services Group, Cbeyond, eBryIT, Fiserv, Fortna, Intelligent Systems Corporation, Knology, Lancope, Northridge Systems, OpenSpan, TerraGo Technologies and Verifone.

Read all the data in Arketi Group’s recently released 2011 CMO Roundtable white paper: The Outlook for Business-to-Business Technology Marketing in 2011, available for free at www.arketi.com/outlook2011.
